MIC Awarded Carbon Champion mark

MIC is proud to announce that it has been awarded the third and highest CCCA Mark of Achievement for our work in spreading best practice in sustainability throughout Camden this year.

The Carbon Champion mark is awarded to organisations in Camden, or MOA_carbon_champ_MICworking in Camden, that are taking the lead and demonstrating to others how to succeed at carbon management and reduction. Holder of the Carbon Champion mark lead by example and support others on an ongoing basis.

To achieve the Better Climate for Camden ‘Carbon Champion’ mark, an organisation must have completed the following steps:

  • Met the criteria for the ‘Going Green’ and ‘Cutting Carbon’ marks.
  • Be regularly demonstrating leadership by sharing knowledge or experiences with others, through the services that they deliver, by working with partners, and so on. Examples of leadership include: providing environmental expertise; becoming a written case study; helping to lead workshops with the Better Climate for Camden Team; providing resources, running events; speaking at an event; and so on.

Faith in Food Workshop Report

Thursday 7th April 2011

“This is a crisis of meaning and being, not just ecology” – Patrick Holden, Sustainable Food Trust

What can faith communities do to build a healthier, fairer and more sustainable food and farming system, for today’s and future generations? How can faith groups ensure that their use of assets, and the food they eat, buy and produce is consistent with their teachings, practices and beliefs about caring for the Earth, their fellow human beings and other living creatures?

That was the subject of ARC’s fourth Faith in Food workshop, held at the Methodist International Centre in London on April 7, which attracted around 60 people for a day of lively discussion and debate. Most were representatives of Baha’ism, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism and Islam in the wider London area; others included representatives from key secular organisations such as the Sustainable Food Trust, the Soil Association, Compassion in World Farming and WWF.

ARC holds its Faith in Food workshop at MIC

The Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC)

The workshop brought together more than 60 delegates from Christian, Hindu, Jain, Jewish and Muslim faith groups and secular organisations in London last week (7.4.11) to debate the issue of how to achieve a more faith-consistent and sustainable food and farming system.

Delegates heard about the growing ecological crisis in agriculture caused by the industrialisation of agriculture over the last 60 years or so. Patrick Holden, who left the Soil Association last year to set up a new global organisation, the Sustainable Food Trust, told the workshop we had been depleting our soil fertility, our fossil fuels, our mineral fertilisers and our water reserves to a critical extent.
