Faith in Food Workshop Report

Thursday 7th April 2011

“This is a crisis of meaning and being, not just ecology” – Patrick Holden, Sustainable Food Trust

What can faith communities do to build a healthier, fairer and more sustainable food and farming system, for today’s and future generations? How can faith groups ensure that their use of assets, and the food they eat, buy and produce is consistent with their teachings, practices and beliefs about caring for the Earth, their fellow human beings and other living creatures?

That was the subject of ARC’s fourth Faith in Food workshop, held at the Methodist International Centre in London on April 7, which attracted around 60 people for a day of lively discussion and debate. Most were representatives of Baha’ism, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism and Islam in the wider London area; others included representatives from key secular organisations such as the Sustainable Food Trust, the Soil Association, Compassion in World Farming and WWF.
